Turn 15 retrospective

No battles. Nice.

My scouting network is starting to pay off. That is a lot of skeletons, but a corresponding lot of opportunity cost in RP. I'm pulling together forces to attack the deep one province for Vanheim next turn.

My mercs show up, now probably unnecessary. I shuffle troops around and start building another fort. No earth gems this turn. I go out to site search. Next turn, I should have 2 items to mail out.

The two new ones off your coast were found via searching. Now I need to scrape together the funds for labs.
Also, I'm converting away from starspawn spam because I've realized that they are way less cost-efficient researchers than slave mages, who are equally good communion slaves.
I am out of new ocean provinces to conquer. Now I have to decide on a course of action.

Wait a couple turns, and I'll send R'lyeh at least one luck item. Not sure if that's useful for your schemes, though.name_here wrote:The two new ones off your coast were found via searching. Now I need to scrape together the funds for labs.

No, my pretender snagged a luck pendant off some random Triton. I don't really need a second one. You should have the earth gems now, unless I screwed up and sent them to someone else. Just make me the hammer soonish.
If you mean statwise, probably because you're looking at someone else by mistake.
If you mean graphically, because of shitty spritework.Kaelik wrote:So why do the Ashdod look like they suck ass exactly?

I mean that based on the turn 16 map, they have two provinces total, neither of which has a fort, and they could possibly have a maximum of four others, none of which are even contiguous with the ones that they have.name_here wrote:If you mean statwise, probably because you're looking at someone else by mistake.
So... wtf?

Oh, that. That's Avor's personal map. He only sees two provinces they hold. They're port provinces. Three exist, and they're all linked to eachother and held by Ashdod.

That's the province score graph as of now.
Cut off on Avor's maps is a near-mirror image of the northern strip he's on, except with different territorial distribution.

The proviences with an Anchor icon them are 'habours' so link up to other proviences.Kaelik wrote:I mean that based on the turn 16 map, they have two provinces total, neither of which has a fort, and they could possibly have a maximum of four others, none of which are even contiguous with the ones that they have.name_here wrote:If you mean statwise, probably because you're looking at someone else by mistake.

I'm not going to look at the map, but ashdod's main power base is actually at the 'bottom' of the doughnut - and they also control all three habour spaces.
You do have holy researchers you know...Sure, they are less than impressive mages, but they are much better communions slaves than slave mages (rain of stones or earthquake are the classic communion counters, and they kinda fail against high HP targets; especially if you have a master cast invulnerability or something). Slave mages forge clams, and search for N stuff; in my opinion, relying on them is a bad idea.name_here wrote:The two new ones off your coast were found via searching. Point. I'll have to make better use of them.

For the peanut gallery, his is my intel assessment with player locations marked. Pased on scout reports and straight asking people.
Ryleh isn't marked as he does own every water provience but his capital is on one of the eastern water provinces.

Okay, because like, all the turn maps have cut off the entire southern continent, so it looked... really tiny. Like, I thought Frank was kicking everyone's ass super handily by owning that tiny Island.

Here is some more thoughts:
The Hall of fame! Just an interesting look at things - you can see that Ryleh has the only SC pretender

Forts! I suspect from this and some other infomation (like his research position) Ryleh has and is (ab)using the spell voice of tiamat, which gives great searching of water proviences, which is why he has so many forts.
I am actually building mine which is very expensive, but I need to to get back into the fight on the research front.

Income!
Different strategies about - Ryleh and myself are both order powers (ryleh has a great dominion). I'm not sure what Ashdod's story is - the three habour proviences are probably worth 450-500 gold a turn between them so that is proping up his score.

Research!
Look at how bad my research is
However, Ashdod has amazing research which is some what unusal.

Actually, two forts were built by hand. The other two needed to be found via local site search. I found two in one province, incidentally. Nature sites aren't revealed by Voice of Tiamat.
Also, the fort I actually paid for got hit by a Sea King's Court indie force. However, Ithilids.

Only elemental sites. Astral, Nature, Death, and Blood don't count as elemental.

Yeah, I'm not exactly tearing things up. I started in a crowded area and missed the first turn, so I have the smallest empire by quite a margin. I do have the highest gem income and the second largest army though, so it's not all bad. Plus, I'm beginning phase 1 of my master plan, which coincidentally includes making an even larger army and collecting even more gems.
To put that in perspective, when Arcocephale said they had seven Earth gems, I had acquired thirty seven of the things.
On the flip side, my income minus upkeep is seriously 270 gold for the whole empire. There is a reason that I have not built any forts.
